If schools are to be cancelled, parents will be notified by a district wide dial out between 5:30 and 6:00 am and radio and television announcements on these stations: KBHR/FM 93.3, TV-6, KFI/AM 640, Channel 7 News, Channel 4 News, Channels 2 & 9 News, and Channel 5 News beginning at 6:00 am. Of course, we can not control whether or not these stations will air the information so please view or listen to more than one of the above.
Notice To Parents
The Bear Valley Unified School District transports approximately 2,200 students to and from school each day. In making decisions about the closure of schools, safety is the prime concern. The School district works with the City of Big Bear Lake, the County of San Bernardino and other agencies to make the proper decisions about school closures. Decisions must be made by 5:30 in the morning if the buses are to be stopped and parents notified.
School Cancellation
In some instances, even in good weather, buses may be delayed. In these cases, students should wait patiently until the bus arrives. Students will be excused from tardies due to late buses. In inclement weather or bad road conditions, buses may also run late during their “take home” runs. Please be patient so that we may ensure your student’s safety.
Late Bus Runs
Weather conditions sometimes result in bus runs taking longer to complete. When this happens, students at Big Bear High School and Big Bear Middle School may be dismissed 30 to 40 minutes early so that buses can be on time to pick up students at Baldwin Lane Elementary, North Shore Elementary, and Big Bear Elementary Schools.
Early Dismissal
1.Please listen to the above noted radio and television stations in the morning to determine if schools are operating.
2.Please do not call the school office, district office, or radio/television stations for information as this jams the telephone lines which are often in emergency use.
3.It is important that you CONFIRM school is in session. If school is closed, there will be no one to supervise your student.
4.The ultimate decision to send your student to school rests with you, the parent. If you do not think it is safe for your individual student to attend school, it is your choice. Please note if school is in session and your student stays home, it will be counted as an unexcused absence.
